Details
LC brass is made by the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, MO. LCCAP is the only military small arms ammunition plant current operating in the USA. The head stamp has the abbreviation LC followed by the last two digits of the year the brass was manufactured. Finally, a circle with cross hairs emblem identifies the brass as standard NATO ammunition.
The brass made at LCAAP is known for its uniformity, dependability and high quality. All ammunition which is sold to the armed forces must pass many stringent tests set by the Joint Munitions Command a subordinate of the United States Army Materiel Command. If any tested component or assembled round fails a quality control test the whole lot is rejected! Rejected lots of components or ammunition are sometimes sold on the civilian market as new product.
While the brass is intended for military use, it is very similar to civilian brass. There are only several minute differences. LC brass has the primer crimped in the primer pocket. A crimped-in primer helps with the ignition reliability of the ammunition as well as prevents the primer from backing out. However, the primer crimp must be removed before the brass can be reloaded. AB processed brass has the military crimp removed. Another difference is the annealing corona. During brass drawing, one of the last steps is annealing the neck to allow proper sealing of the chamber when a round is fired. Civilian brass in most cases has the annealing discoloration chemically removed. Finally, in some calibers, LC brass is thicker. Therefore, its case capacity is smaller and it cannot hold as much powder. Contact your powder and/or bullet manufacturer for more reloading information.
